Detailed info:
Clover Appleton goes by the title "Seer", which means she's the follower of the unnamed goddess of prophecy and luck. Presumably Clover knows the name of her deity, but this is something that she will never share with the rest of the world. The reason for this is tied to superstition; Clover believes that speaking Her name causes ill luck for those who hear it. The halfling has quite a few quirks that tie into her desire to keep misfortune at bay. The most obvious of these is that she always wears much in the way of bells and jingly jewelry in the hope that bad spirits will stay away.
Clover was born into a well-to-do family in a large city and never wanted for anything. However all this came crashing down when her father was caught burglarizing and was thrown into prison when Clover was still a young child. After this the young halfling and her overworked mother had to struggle to make ends meet; this difficult lifestyle continued for several years until Clover was visited by the avatar of her goddess. With her new power obtained, Clover vowed that she would never again use her thieving skills (less out of ethics and more out of the fear of being caught as her father had been), nor would she continue to have to scrimp and save in order to eat. As a prophetess, she was able to earn a fair living, but this drive to obtain a steady income eventually became a cause of grief- and the bars of her cage- when she caught the attention of someone she thought only needed her advice as a fortune-teller. With the help of a few others whose fates she subtly shifted, she was eventually able to break free.
Clover's magic largely involves divination, but although she can foresee the near future and current situation for others, as well as turning luck slightly in their favor, she has no influence over her own fortune. In fact, she comes up completely blank in her own readings and while she can determine the tarot card of anyone else, even regardless of their distance from her, she herself has no card. This was the price to pay for her gift of prophecy: to be able to guide and influence others, but never herself.
By default Clover is, or rather was, a pleasant person, but this is subject to change on a whim. Not her own fancy, but at the influence of her magic; the more she foretells, the more she changes. When she prophesies for or about someone, she begins to take on their personality. This lasts either until she divines for someone else and her personality shifts to emulate the new target or until it eventually wears off (assuming she does not touch her cards or have any prophetic dreams for a few days, which would be a rare occurrence). People think her strange for this, assuming they notice, but it does add to the uncanny aura of a prophetess. She generally travels too much for people to catch on to her morphing temperament, however, so what they usually see is whichever personality she's currently wearing. If someone is around her long enough to point this out, she will inevitably change the subject.
She's very secretive about her magic and her past, the first because she's required to be and the second because she doesn't want to think about it. The only person who has ever caught onto her strange personality immediately upon meeting her was Tavin, whose magic overlaps in a way; since she has no tarot card and no trait overpowering any other, his elemental-sensing magic came up just as blank as her own self-divination does.
